Signs and symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral
Palsy is a type of neurological brain disorder and the conditions
of this disease are very harmful and disturbing. The signs and symptoms
of cerebral palsy can be detected in children within a few months
of birth and they persist as they grow. Children who suffer from cerebral
palsy have awkward and unorganized body movements. Such body movements
tend to aggravate with time.
People
have a false impression that the awkward movements of a cerebral palsy
child have no link with the nerves and muscles. All the movements
of the body are brain controlled so when there is a malfunctioning
in the brain such uncoordinated body movements tend to appear which
are not normal.
A childs normal playtime activity can determine if the child
has cerebral palsy. Some children may have easy and efficient motor
movements while some have difficulty even in coordination. So, when
parents observe even a slightest clumsy or unorganized motor skill
in the child then it is time they took their child to an expert professional
for assessment and guidance.
Due to hardened muscles, the childs reflexes are enlarged or
magnified. The movements of the child are either too rigid or slackened.
Such movements happen due to the already affected muscle tone.
There are many reasons for cerebral palsy. When the child has a physical
damage to the brain it leads to cerebral palsy. Accidents or falls
in the early childhood leads to brain damage and further accidents
will aggravate the condition to cerebral palsy. Cerebral infections
caused by bacteria and virus also lead to cerebral palsy.
Therapies and treatments help a cerebral palsy person to restrict
the further damage and failure of the brain. The skills of the person
are developed to help and maintain the functional level as the person
affected finds it difficult to manage on their own. Nevertheless,
in some cases where the condition is not very severe the therapies
help in managing and improving the situation.
The treatments given should help the cerebral palsy child to cope
up and lead a normal life as far as possible in adulthood although
there is no permanent cure. The love, attention and treatment given
by the caregivers and parents help the cerebral palsy children to
improve a lot.
In preparation for an adult life of maturity and responsibility, a
child with this condition should continue to grow and develop to be
able to live life as normal as possible. It might be a condition that
cannot be cured but there are many things that parents or caregivers
can do to help people with cerebral palsy.
